Distributed Energy Resources in 2022

Market and regulatory conditions are ripe for the exponential growth in distributed energy resources (DERs), and there is an opportunity for these new grid edge assets to be used in a way that will provide benefits for utilities and their customers by increasing the safety and reliability of the grid, displacing the need for infrastructure upgrades or helping to decarbonize the grid.

It will be critical that utilities have visibility into these new assets and the ability to control them, if necessary, in order for the beneficial promise of these DERs to be realized. The time for utilities to be proactive and develop a DER control strategy is now — before the DER rocket ship takes off in earnest.
